|Who shouldn’t have aesthetic treatments?|
|Studies have not been performed on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Although treatments are not thought to be dangerous, treatment is best avoided during this time.|
If you have any diseases, involving nerve damage or muscle weakness, line & wrinkle treatments are not recommended. It is also important to let your Doctor know if there is a family history of such diseases – for example Myasthenia Gravis or if you have previously suffered from Bell’s Palsy.
Patients who are currently being treated with amino glycoside antibiotics or spectinomycin should wait until they have completed their course of treatment, and anyone who has had an allergic reaction to human albumin should not have line & wrinkle treatments.
|How does the Botulinum Toxin work?|
|When injected into a muscle, temporarily relaxes the muscle by blocking nerve impulses. The muscle is temporarily unable to contract so that dynamic wrinkles are not formed. This gives the overlying facial skin a softer, smoother and more youthful appearance. It can also be used to relax the muscles that cause Masseter Jaw (Clenching/ Brusixm), can help relax the strong muscles associated with a Gummy smile .|
|How can I be sure I won’t end up with a “frozen face” look?|
|Our line and wrinkle treatments reduce muscle movement, not prevent it permernantly. The frozen look is due to overly large amount of Botox being used each treatment. Your pracititioner will administer a small amount inviting you back for a review in two weeks to assess if more is required.|
|Is there an age limit for injectable treatments?|
|For ethical reasons we do have age limit policies with our injectable treatments. Due to the natural development of the face and muscles we not to provide dermal or lip fillers to anyone below the age of 18. To treat excessive sweating, hyperhidrosis, we do not inject anyone below the age of 21. For muscle relaxant injections that address lines and wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes we do not treat anyone below the age of 25.|
|How regulary shoud I have line and wrinkle treatment?|
|To ensure the best results long-term initial treatments should be approximately 3 – 4 months apart, but this will eventually become 6 – 12 months apart as your muscle is re-educated.|
|What are the possible side effects?|
|Side effects of Botulinum Toxin injections are rare. When the treatment begins to work, you may notice some temporary strange “sensations” around the treated areas as the muscles that have not been injected adjust. |
Some patients may experience some tenderness, mild redness, swelling or bruising follow the treatment but these are only short-term effects that last a few days.

|Will there be any down-time?|
|The treatment takes about 15 minutes and the pain is minimal with a small ‘bee-sting’ like swelling subsiding within minutes. Within 36-48 hours the wrinkle treatments or fillers starts to work, with full results becoming apparent after about 2 weeks.|
Immediately following your treatment you are advised to avoid exercise and hot baths to prevent sweating out the Botulinum Toxin
You will be ask not to bend down or place your head below your knees for the first few hours to ensure the Botulinum Toxin does not move from the injection site.
We also recommend avoiding massaging or rubbing the area for 24 hours after the treatment has been injected.
Please be aware that while there is no down-time the results are not immediate; it can take up to five days for the results of your Botox injections to be fully visible.
